Dr Shehla Javed Akram is a successful woman entrepreneur in Pakistan. She was a pioneer in the field of healthcare, launching Pakistan’s first hospital for acute medical care. She then broke into the traditionally male-dominated sector by setting up a pharmaceutical industry and became the CEO of a real estate development company, JS Developers. In the public sector, Dr Akram struggled for seven years to get permission for establishing a separate Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Pakistan. This innovative idea came to her after she won, as executive member, the LCCI election on open merit in 2002. It was then that she realized that women entrepreneurs could not excel in a male-dominated chamber because of their own inhibitions, and that women-specific products needed a more dedicated platform. Finally, the national assembly passed a bill that would allow women’s chambers at provincial, divisional and district levels. Dr Akram thus became the founder president of the WCCI in Pakistan. As a result, from    a single seat in 2002, representation has increased by 172% to date. This increased representation has also encouraged SME policymakers to define better gender-specific policies, along with improved legislation for the status of women. Under her leadership, the WCCI has become internationally recognized. Dr Akram became the First Vice President of the Federation of Chambers. She also sits on the boards of PAMCO, The Skill Development Council in Punjab, and the Punjab Council on the Status of Women and she is an Ambassador for International Women (OPS). She was also recently honoured with the Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah Award.

IMPACT AND ACCURACY OF MY RESEARCH / ANALYSIS ON THE WORLD STAGE

In June, 2014, my Article "How will the shale boom affect the UAE?" was published in Arabian Oil and Gas magazine, UAE, by ITP publishing group, the largest Energy portal in Middle East, publishes over 60 magazines in both Arabic and English.

My Article was published when global oil prices were over US $100 per barrel, I pointed out about the possibility of downfall in Oil Prices, geopolitical impact and how to mitigate those risks of Shale revolution on UAE and region at that time.

In mid October, 2014 International Monetary Fund (IMF) downgraded World Economic growth and warned of recession in Euro zone. The news was taken very badly and around the world markets lost billions in just few days, including in the UAE.

In wake of IMF's warning on Global Economic situation, in October, 2014, I wrote an Article on "UAE and world Economy, is there any need for Panic in UAE?".I predicated in my Article that UAE economy was doing well and there was no need for any panic.

IMF released a statement in November 2014 about UAE economy and concluded that UAE was doing well.

In May, 2015, my Article "Thinking beyond Yemen" on Military cooperation between Pakistan and GCC countries was published by Arabian Gazette. In my article I tried to showcase the importance of close military partnership to fight against terrorism and its advantages for the region.

Creation of Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism (IMAFT) was announced in December, 2015.  The coalition was announced of 34 member countries; by March 2016 this had risen to 39.

In March 2016, my Article "GCC must join hands for economic diversification" was published by the Khaleej Times, one of the leading English newspaper in the UAE. In my Article to find a common strategy for economic diversification in the region, GCC countries may establish a ''GCC Economic Diversification Organization''.

In May 2016, The GCC has announced the formation of a high level "The Economic and Development Affairs Authority" to enhance connection, integration and coordination among the GCC states in all economic and development fields.

In June, 2012, my Research Paper "Energy Generation & Distribution Issues in Pakistan" for Prime Minister's Inspection Commission, Pakistan, it was suggested that one cohesive Ministry of Energy be made responsible for all energy matters in Pakistan.

In August 2017, Government of Pakistan announced the creation of the Ministry of Energy after merging of the petroleum and power divisions from Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and Ministry of Water and Power to improve coordination in power production and installation of new power projects in the country.
